Setting a Custom Meta

What is 'meta'?

Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page’s content. Meta tags don’t appear on the page itself - they only appear in the page’s HTML code.

You won't see them appear on your profile. Where you will see them, is on other platforms when you share your Linkdaily - places like Facebook and Twitter, or when your Linkdaily is a result on a Google search.

With Linkdaily PRO, you can set custom meta in the 'SEO' section found in the 'Settings' tab of your Admin.

What are meta tags used for?

There are two components to custom meta: a title tag and a description.

The meta title tag is the headline that will appear on a search engine, or in a social post. They're critical for SEO, sharing, and usability. Title tags should be an accurate and concise description of what the page contains. It's your opportunity to get people to click on your Linkdaily.

The meta description is a longer bit of text, up to 155 characters, that gives more context. It's like your page's blurb. It's the grey text that displays under the bold title tag headline in search engines. Words included in your description then help your page get discovered when someone searches for those terms. Having a good meta description will help improve your CTR (click-through rate).

With Linkdaily PRO you get to customize both your title tags and your meta description.

Writing a good title tag

Keep your title tags below 60 characters in length, otherwise, they might get cut off, or end with an ellipsis, '...'.

Include your most important keywords first, so they display prominently, but don't overstuff your title tag with keywords - Google probably won't like that. And always make sure the title matches what is found on the page.

Writing a good meta description

Write proper, sensical sentences in an active voice. Think about the call-to-action - what's going to make the viewer click on the page? For example, you could include "Sign up to my newsletter and read my latest articles."

Include your focus keywords, which might include your brand name.
